Financial Exploitation on the Rise in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities!

Residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities are being exploited! Social security checks, pension funds, land, and savings accounts are being targeted by family members to take from their loved-ones. Cases are on the rise. Is this due to the recent fall of our economy or just the way that family care for their loved-ones?

South Carolina Code of Laws deals with exploitation in a very defined manor. Anyone using power as legal representative and or family to misuse resources for their own wants and needs and that do not take care of a resident's needs can be fined and or imprisoned. Normally, local law enforcement is involved, the Attorney General's Office, and local Ombudsman.

Social security checks to hundreds of thousands of dollars are being taken from residents.

Snow Day in Greenville, South Carolina

A registered nurse of 25 years had her vehicle backed into the drive and ready for departure for a 5:30AM trek to the hospital where she works in an intensive care unit to care for patients. This woman has an unselfish desire to to take care of her patients.

The road was covered with about 4.5 inches of powder white snow. The trek was slow and methodical as she makes her way to the hospital.

Several nurses within her unit failed to even attempt a drive to the hospital. Are these nurse's jobs in jeopardy? At what point do we sacrifice self for others?

Does the hospital (GHS) have a policy in place for employees who do not attempt to get to the hospital during increment weather?
